Characters of Acid Fast bacilli Isolated from Human Materials

Abstract
Authors selected arbitrarily 156 atrains of acid fast bacilli (AFB) among more than 1,000 strains that were isolated from the sputun, cerebrospinal fluid, pleural exudate, pus and urine, and they were studied-biologically and biochemically on their characters and drug resistance to antituberculous. agents.
The results were a follows: 156 strains of AFB were consiting of 138 strains of humah tubercle bacilli, two strains of bovine tubercle bacilli and 16 strains of atypical AFB which were eight strains of scotochromogens, six strains of non-photochromogens and two strains of rapid growers.
The resistant strains to anti-tuberculous agents were 21.7% to isonicotinic acid hydrazide(INH), 29.7% to p-aminosalicylic acid (PAS), 34.1% to streptomycin(SM) and 20.3% to kanamycin(KM) respectively in human tubercle bailli, and the average was 26.5%
In bovine tubercle bacilli only one strain was-resistant to SM and no strain was resistant to INH, PAS and KM. In stypical AFB all 16 strains were resistant to INH, PAS, SM and KM.
Among 138 strains of human tubercle bacilli, 36 strains were grown in 2.5mcg/§¢ of Ethambutol(EB), 12 strains were grown in 5.0mcg/§¢ o EB, two strains in 10.0mcg/§¢ of RFP and no one was grown in 50.0mcg/§¢ of Rifampicin RFP. Among two strins of bovine tubercle bacilli, one strain wa grown only in 2.5mcg/§¢ of EB and no one was grown in 5.0mcg/§¢ of EB, 10.0mcg/§¢ and 50.0mcg/§¢ of RFP. Among 16 strains of atypical AFB, seven strains of eight scotoghromogens were grown in 2.5mcg/§¢ and 5.0mcg/§¢ of EB, six strains in 10.0mcg/§¢ of RFP, two strains in 50.0mcg/§¢ o RFP. All six non-phozochromogens were grown in 2.5mcg/§¢ of EB, and five strains of six non-photochromogens were grown in 5.0mcg/§¢ EB nd two strains in 10.0mcg/§¢ of(RFP), one strin in 50.0mcg/§¢ of RFP, and two rapid growers were grown in 2.5mcg/§¢ of EB and one strain of them wee grown in 5.0mcg/§¢ of EB, and another one was grown in 50.0mcg/§¢ of RFP.
The orignin of 156 AFB strains tested were as foolows 130 strains of human tubercle bacili and 15 strains of atypical AFB (seven-scotochromogens, six non-photochromogens and two rapid growers) were isofated from sputa, and two strains of human tubercle bacilli, one strain of both bovine tubercle bacilli and scotochromogen were isolated from pleural fluids, and three strains of human tubercle bacilli frnm cerebrospinal fluids, two strains of human tubercle bacilli and one strain of bovine tubercle bacilli form pus and one strain of human tubercle bacilli was isolaled from urine respectively.
